JOB PURPOSE:
Under the direction of the Director of Support Services. This role is responsible for supervising, planning, organizing, managing, directing and evaluating the work of the maintenance, grounds and custodial staff within Navajo Technical University to ensure acceptable environment for staff and student learning. Organizes workflow, prioritizing and scheduling work assignments, establishing work sequence, coordinating utility shutdowns, planning and overseeing equipment repair;
coordinating with outside vendors, contractors, subcontractors, and providing technical expertise and consultation; participating in government agency inspections, administering budgets, monitoring inventories; adhering to and enforcing regulations, and policies. This position is required to respond to all issues (24) hours / (7) days on NTU campuses (Crownpoint, NM and Chinle, AZ), as it relates to safety, maintenance, security or custodial.

JOBDUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plans and develops staffing schedules, equipment usage schedules and procedures for work; coordinates and monitors status of work requests.
- Assess maintenance and custodial needs, including directing a sustained effort to achieve performance improvement and the most efficient use of resources.
- Supervises the maintenance and custodial staff by advising them on expectations regarding policies, procedures, work methods, and performance quality standards.
- Administer a reporting system which keeps supervisor informed of budget and work schedule performance and ensures an up-to-date job status.
- Provides training and guidance to staff; demonstrates activities on how to troubleshoot and repair.
- Establishes priorities and monitor progress against approved schedules and provide reports to the Director of Support Services.
- Oversees maintenance and repairs of heating, cooling, electrical, television, plumbing and telephone systems.
- Responds to emergency situations on NTU Campuses (Crownpoint, NM and Chinle AZ) maintaining or returning campus facilities to conditions acceptable to accommodate student learning.
- Ensures compliance with state regulatory and inspection requirements and facility operational codes.
- Assesses requests and priorities maintenance, custodial and construction needs.
- Conducts inspections of maintenance work to ensure compliance to codes and regulations.
- Troubleshoots and takes corrective action to ensure structural, electrical, plumbing, HVAC and refrigeration operate as needed.
- Completes inventory of required equipment and supplies and prepares requisitions for replacements as necessary.
- Performs and oversees preventive maintenance and repair duties on all building mechanical systems, energy management equipment, equipment and tools.
- Ensures conformance with OSHA, OCAHO, and CARF, and other institutional and federal regulations;
- Assists with master planning for NTU.
- Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Communicates with personnel regarding departmental activities and trainings.
- Supervises personnel which typically include recommendations for hiring, firing, performance evaluation, training, work allocation, and problem resolution.
- Oversees the daily operations of the maintenance department.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate required.
- A minimum of five (5) years of verifiable technical experience in a specialty trade or general maintenance field.
- A minimum of one (2) year of direct experience in a supervisory or lead capacity.
- Certification in HVAC or/and, electrical or/and plumbing preferred.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Must possess a valid state driver's license and maintain a clean driving record.
- Must successfully complete and pass a background check. Employment is contingent upon no prior felony convictions and no substantiated history of child abuse and/or neglect.
