Position: AMERICORPS HOME OWNERSHIP SPECIALIST
Location: Tohatchi

Highlands Housing has served southeastern Appalachia Kentucky since 2007. We have helped almost 300 families achieve the dream of home ownership. Our services include energy efficient new construction, owner occupied repair, tenant rental assistance, and homebuyer education and advising.

The Ameri Corps Home ownership Specialist will play a key role in helping families achieve home ownership. This position supports future homeowners and coordinates volunteers for construction and repair projects and will serve at the direction of the Director of Housing Services in Monticello, Kentucky. This is a 12-month service position beginning September 1, 2026, and ending August 31, 2026, at 37.5 hours/week.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct community outreach to increase awareness of Highlands Housing’s affordable housing programs and services. Assist clients with understanding and completing applications for home ownership programs
  • Assist with homebuyer education activities that help prepare individuals and families for successful home ownership.
  • Support clients by providing general information about the home buying process and available housing resources.
  • Assist clients with budgeting activities and home ownership readiness tasks under the guidance of Highlands Housing staff.
  • Connect individuals and families with appropriate community resources and service providers through referrals.
  • Support partnerships with local organizations serving individuals and families experiencing housing insecurity
  • Promote home ownership programs, creating marketing materials, managing social media, and help repair projects, homebuyer education events, and community engagement activities.
  • Collect, maintain, and report data related to client participation, volunteer activities, and program outcomes.
  • Provide administrative and follow-up support to clients and volunteers as assigned.
