BRIEF

DESCRIPTION:

The Community Wellness and Outreach Coordinator play an essential role in Eddy County's efforts to combat alcohol-related issues by planning, developing, and implementing a variety of targeted program activities. The primary focus of these initiatives is to prevent the incidence of Driving While
Impaired (DWI) offenses, binge drinking, underage drinking, and other types of alcohol-related harm
within the community. A key component of this position involves facilitating the Carlsbad DWI School,
educating individuals regarding the dangers of impaired driving and to promote responsible
behaviors; as well as overseeing and facilitating the DWISE Victim Impact Program, which offers
insights into the ramifications of impaired driving through real life stories from those affected by DWI
incidents. To successfully meet the responsibilities of this role, the employee is required to obtain
certification as a DWI School Facilitator within their first year of employment. This certification is
essential for facilitating the Carlsbad DWI School sessions. The Coordinator will be one of the senior
DWI School Facilitators. The Coordinator must achieve a certification as a Prevention Specialist or
actively work towards this qualification, with a commitment to maintaining certification once it is
obtained. All prevention programs under the Coordinator's guidance must adhere to oversight by a
Certified Prevention Specialist, ensuring that established standards and practices are met. Regular
updates to the Prevention section of the Management Data System are required, alongside other
reporting functions as directed by the DWI Program Manager and the Eddy County Community
Services Director, to track progress and efficacy in prevention efforts. Additionally, the Coordinator is
expected to actively participate in the monthly DWI Program Advisory Council meetings. Office hours
will vary. This position will be paid with grant funds and will remain in effect as long as grant funding is
available. Employee may be required to work irregular hours, attend job related meetings, and
perform other job duties as assigned.
