Youth Coalition Member Position Description

Rocky Mountain Youth Corps (RMYC) is a nonprofit youth development organization serving New Mexico. We inspire young adults to make a positive difference in themselves and their communities. Through training and service, youth discover their potential for healthy, productive lives.

POSITION

PURPOSE:

The Youth Coalition Member plays an active role in shaping youth mental health initiatives, peer support networks, and youth-led events across Taos County. Working alongside adult allies and local community partners, coalition members ensure that mental health programs reflect the real experiences and needs of local youth. All youth coalition members will receive both personal and professional development training such as First Aid/CPR, Mental Health First Aid, financial management, and public speaking skills.

POSITION TYPE :
Seasonal, Part time

SCHEDULE :
Friday, 12pm-4:00pm, and occasional weekends for tabling/community events.

STIPEND : $17.00 an hour, at least 4 hours per week before taxes.

REPORTS TO :
Prevention staff

DATES :
October 9th to April 30th, 2026

Dates subject to change due to weather, funding, or other conditions

We will not meet on RMYC or school holiday weeks

APPLICATION TIMELINE:

LOCATION : RMYC Taos Office - 1203 King Dr., Unit 3, Taos, NM, 87571 with project locations throughout Northern New Mexico. Transportation can be provided by staff, please let us know during the interview process.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Youth-Led Event Planning & Execution

    • Brainstorm, plan, and host community events (e.g., community wellness events, youth ice cream socials and mental health awareness campaigns).

    • Design events that promote connection, reduce stigma, and create safe social spaces for young people in Taos County.

  • Advocacy & Peer Leadership

    • Serve as a voice for Taos County youth on mental health challenges, emotional well-being, and local resources.

    • Provide youth input on local programs, digital tools, countywide mental wellness campaigns, and community policy work.

  • Community & School Engagement

    • Represent the coalition at high school clubs (if applicable), community gatherings, and local partner meetings.

  • Coalition Collaboration

    • Attend and help facilitate monthly coalition meetings to plan projects and review community needs.

    • Collaborate with fellow youth representatives and adult coordinators in a team-oriented environment.

  • Program Operations & Professional Standards

    • Perform service work with pride and determination on all projects as part of a team.

    • Actively participate in weekly check-ins and educational training sessions.

    • Maintain a safe work environment to ensure both physical and mental well-being.

    • Comply with work standards set forth by project partners, staff, and all Rocky Mountain Youth Corps (RMYC) rules and policies and handbook.

    • Maintain a positive, professional attitude and show respect for the natural environment and community resources.

    • Reflect on personal experiences, share constructive feedback in group settings, and complete/approve your own timecards on schedule.

    • Develop obtainable personal and professional goals for your transition into further education or employment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently enrolled in Vista Grande High School (Ages 14-18).

  • Passionate about mental health and improving the community for young people.

  • Reliable and willing to commit at least 4 hours per week for meetings, planning, and event support and able to complete entire length of service term (see "dates" above)

  • Respectful of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and personal experiences.

  • No prior leadership experience required—enthusiasm, lived experience, and a willingness to learn are what matter most.

  • Must have access to identification that meets employment verification and I9 requirements.

  • Strong work ethic and willingness to work within a team

  • Able to work in supervised environment required to participate in one service event that benefits the community
