OverviewThe Associate Manager Nursing supports the Nursing Manager and nursing leadership team in overseeing daily nursing operations within the facility. This role is responsible for assisting in the management and coordination of nursing staff, ensuring compliance with clinical standards, and promoting high‑quality, resident‑centered care. The Associate Manager Nursing acts as a key liaison between nursing staff, administration, residents, and families, helping to maintain smooth operations and effective communication.
ResponsibilitiesAssist the Nursing Manager in planning, directing, and coordinating daily nursing operations to ensure efficient and effective delivery of care. Supervise and evaluate nursing staff performance, providing coaching, feedback, and support to promote professional growth and high‑quality care. Oversee scheduling, staffing, and resource allocation to meet resident care needs and comply with budgetary constraints. Ensure nursing staff adherence to facility policies, nursing standards, and all applicable state and federal regulations.
Participate in development and implementation of quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives. Monitor clinical outcomes and resident satisfaction, working collaboratively to address any issues or concerns. Facilitate communication and coordination among nursing staff, interdisciplinary teams, residents, and families. Support staff education and training programs, including orientation, continuing education, and competency assessments. Assist with investigation and resolution of incidents, complaints, and adverse events.
Help maintain a safe and therapeutic environment by enforcing infection control, safety protocols, and emergency procedures. Collaborate with Nursing Manager on budget preparation, inventory control, and procurement of supplies and equipment. Serve as acting Nursing Manager in their absence, making decisions and managing operations as required. Promote a positive work culture that reflects the mission and values of the New Mexico State Veterans Home.
Primary customers are veteran residents and their families, including Gold Star Parents.
Ideal CandidateThe ideal candidate is a highly skilled and experienced nursing professional with strong leadership abilities and a commitment to delivering exceptional, veteran‑centered care.
- Current, unrestricted RN license issued by the New Mexico Board of Nursing or a compact state with the Nurse Licensure Compact.
- Minimum 3–5 years of nursing experience, including 1–2 years in a supervisory or leadership role within long‑term care, skilled nursing, or acute care.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Sound judgment, problem‑solving skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong understanding of regulatory requirements (CMS, OSHA, HIPAA, state nursing regulations).
- Experience in quality improvement, staff development, conflict resolution.
- Familiarity with electronic medical record systems.
- Proficiency in budgeting, staffing, and resource management.
Must possess a current RN license in New Mexico and two (2) years of management experience relevant to the duties of this position.
Employment Requirements- Safety‑sensitive designation; subject to pre‑employment and random testing for alcohol/drug testing.
- Valid American Heart Association BLS/CPR certification.
- Criminal background check pursuant to New Mexico Caregivers Criminal Screening Act.
- Valid New Mexico driver’s license.
- Valid Defensive Driving Course certificate.
- Valid Safe Food Handling certificate (or receive within one week).
- Completion of HIPAA training.
- Sign confidentiality agreement.
- Read, write, speak, and comprehend English.
- Occasional travel for training and meetings; driving a State of NM owned vehicle may be required.
- Working hours may include weekends, holidays, overtime, and callback hours.
Work performed within a long‑term facility. Requires walking, standing, bending, pushing, pulling, lifting, and stretching. Must function under pressure and stressful situations. Exposure to contagious viruses, diseases, bodily fluids, and possible physical or verbal abuse. Occasional travel. Must be available for on‑call, nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, and callback hours.
