The Nurse Manager is responsible for providing leadership, supervision, coordination, and operational oversight of nursing services within the nursing facility. This position supports the Director of Nursing in promoting safe, high-quality, person-centered resident care and ensuring nursing department operations are consistent with facility policies, procedures, and applicable federal and state requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Assist the Director of Nursing with the daily operation and management of the nursing department.
- Provide leadership, direction, and support to nursing department employees.
- Maintain a visible presence throughout the nursing units and assist staff with operational concerns.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, professionalism, and respectful communication.
- Assist with implementing nursing department policies, procedures, and performance expectations.
- Communicate resident care or operational concerns to the Director of Nursing or appropriate licensed clinical staff.
- Serve as a resource to nursing employees regarding facility procedures, staffing, communication, and departmental expectations.
- Provide supervision, direction, coaching, and support to nursing department personnel within the authority of the position.
- Monitor employee attendance, punctuality, professionalism, communication, and compliance with facility policies.
- Assist with orientation and onboarding of newly hired nursing employees.
- Assist with employee performance evaluations.
- Provide coaching and counseling and participate in corrective action processes in collaboration with the Director of Nursing and Human Resources.
- Address employee concerns promptly and follow the appropriate chain of command.
- Promote a positive, professional, and resident-centered work environment.
- Assist with identifying staff education and training needs.
- Assist with developing and maintaining nursing schedules to ensure appropriate staffing coverage.
- Monitor staffing levels, vacancies, call-outs, overtime, and scheduling concerns.
- Assist with obtaining coverage for open shifts and unexpected absences.
- Coordinate staffing assignments in consultation with licensed nursing leadership when assignments involve clinical scope-of-practice considerations.
- Monitor the use of agency staff and overtime and assist leadership with developing strategies to reduce unnecessary staffing costs.
- Communicate staffing shortages and concerns promptly to the Director of Nursing and Administrator.
- Participate in administrative or staffing on-call responsibilities as assigned.
- Promote resident dignity, privacy, choice, safety, and quality of life.
- Observe and report resident concerns or changes to the appropriate licensed nurse.
- Assist with coordinating communication between nursing staff, residents, families, and other departments.
- Ensure resident concerns and complaints are appropriately communicated and followed through.
