Position Summary

Seeking a dedicated and compassionate School Nurse.

The School Nurse plays an essential role in supporting students' health, safety, and educational success. This position promotes student wellness and works collaboratively with school staff, families, and community partners to provide quality health services and create a healthy, safe learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide and coordinate health services for students and staff.

  • Maintain accurate student health, immunization, medication, and daily health records.

  • Conduct required student health screenings and make appropriate referrals.

  • Monitor students who take medications at school and ensure proper documentation.

  • Implement procedures related to communicable and contagious diseases.

  • Participate in IEP, IHP, and 504 planning as appropriate.

  • Provide health education and staff training on topics such as hygiene, puberty, and other health-related issues.

  • Monitor AED equipment and provide emergency health support as needed.

  • Arrange emergency transportation for students and staff when necessary.

  • Supervise and clinically support the Health Assistant and Educational Assistant.

  • Ensure appropriate health-office coverage during student lunch and recess periods.

  • Coordinate health services with city, county, and state agencies.

  • Conduct follow-up regarding student health concerns and make home visits when necessary.

  • Assist with student registration and ensure required health documentation is obtained.

  • Maintain compliance with New Mexico Public Education Department requirements and submit required reports.

  • Complete Medicaid billing and required immunization reporting.

  • Maintain professional licensure through continuing education, training, workshops, and conferences.

  • Manage health-office resources, personnel, facilities, and program needs.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding student, family, and financial information.

Required Qualifications
  • Must have a school certification for RN by education board

  • Current New Mexico Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the New Mexico Board of Nursing.

  • Current CPR certification and first-aid training as required by the school.

  • Ability to work effectively with students, families, school staff, and community partners.

  • Strong communication, organizational, computer, and record-keeping skills.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Ability to recognize professional limitations and appropriately seek supervision and consultation.

  • Successful completion of a fingerprint/background check.

  • Ability to perform the physical and professional requirements of the position.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience or knowledge of computer-based health records systems.

  • Knowledge of data-driven instructional practices.

  • Familiarity with Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).

  • Experience working with children or in a school health setting.
