Seasonal Farmpark Garden Assistant
Rate: $13.00/hour
Pay Grade: SEA | Starting salary based on prior experience and education.
Location: Farmpark, Kirtland, OH 44094
Position
Description:
Under the direction of the Horticulture Manager, the Seasonal Farmpark Garden Assistant supports the planting and maintenance of program and vegetable gardens, including perennial crops, orchard areas, and small fruit plantings. This position may also assist with greenhouse and floral garden care.
Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Planting and maintaining vegetable and floral garden areas.
- Maintaining orchard, perennial crops, and fruiting areas, including pruning and harvesting.
- Caring for and maintaining planters throughout the park.
- Operating garden machinery such as tractors, tillers, and weed trimmers.
- Performing insect and weed control through mechanical removal and approved pesticide use.
- Working with interpretive staff to keep public areas neat, clean, safe, and presentable.
- Maintaining tools and equipment, including hand tools and machinery.
- Collaborating with volunteers and staff to keep entrance areas well groomed.
- Assisting with special events and interpretive programs as needed.
- Reporting issues requiring prompt attention to appropriate staff.
- Performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience in horticulture or agricultural production preferred.
- Minimum Age: 16
- Basic knowledge of gardening.
- Comfort speaking in public with both small and large groups.
- Enthusiasm for working with families and children of all ages.
- Ability to properly operate vehicles, trucks with trailers, RTVs, and Gators.
- Ability to use required tools and equipment.
- Strong verbal, written, and listening communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Variable work schedule up to 28 hours per week.
- Occasional weekend, evening, and holiday work may be required.
- Valid driver's license and insurability under the Agency's liability policy.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.
