I. Position Function

SUMMARY:

Under the direction of Wildland Engine Captain, the Wildland Firefighter is responsible for responding to wildland fires and other all hazard activities or fuel related restoration projects.

JOB DUTIES:

• Provides for crew and self-safety.
• Carries out suppression actions.
• Keeps supervisor informed and requests additional assistance as necessary.
• May serve as a driver for engines.
• Participates in project work in support of ecosystem management such as prescribed fire, brush disposal, back logged fuels preparation and disposal.
• Adheres to agency physical training program to enhance the ability of self and crew members to perform the required arduous firefighting duties.
• Manages assigned property and maintains equipment including hand tools, chainsaws, firing equipment, food and water provisions, and personal protective equipment to ensure that assigned personnel meet fire readiness standards on a daily basis.
• Maintains vehicles and equipment to a specified degree of fire readiness and appearance.
• May perform other duties as assigned.
