Senior Therapeutic Area Specialist, Oncology – Richmond, VA
Position Summary:
The TAS is a critical role in our unique customer model to drive demand for BMS medicines within a defined territory for appropriate patients. The TAS engages healthcare providers (HCPs) with a differentiated customer experience through scientific dialogue consistent with product labels, leveraging new ways of working. The TAS builds and maintains strong professional credibility with regional thought leaders, community physicians, medical group practices and other stakeholders in the patient care continuum.
The TAS is field‑based, spending 100% of time in the field with external customers.
- Promote approved indications of BMS products within the territory to meet or exceed assigned sales targets in a compliant manner.
- Create demand for BMS medicines by articulating the clinical and scientific rationale for product use in appropriate patients.
- Engage with and maintain a high level of scientific expertise on all assigned products and therapeutic areas.
- Prepare and implement comprehensive territory and account plans.
- Use tools such as CE^3 to derive insights and inform call plans.
- Provide feedback on tool usage to leadership to enable continuous improvement.
- Demonstrate scientific expertise and passion using approved resources and publications.
- Conduct in‑office presentations and discuss product‑related scientific information consistent with the label.
- Organize external speaker programs, selecting speakers approved by the Speakers Bureau and facilitating scheduling and logistics.
- Maintain expertise on emerging data for approved indications.
- Engage real‑time medical support through Medical on Call to answer unsolicited questions.
- Collaborate with other field teams to ensure the best customer experience.
- Share insights and information internally with appropriate stakeholders to better serve customers.
- Comply with all laws, regulations, and policies governing BMS conduct.
- Advanced scientific degree and/or 5+ years of pharmaceutical or biotechnology experience as healthcare sales, MSL, or nurse.
- Ability to communicate scientific or clinical data accurately and convincingly to HCPs.
- Experience building and maintaining strong credibility with key customers and influencing networks.
- Experience in oncology (required).
- Strong account management, sales skill sets, and proven track record of meeting or exceeding goals.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively cross‑functionally with a positive team mindset.
- Strong selling and promotional skills proven through a track record of performance.
- Customer/commercial mindset with the ability to drive business results.
- Patient centricity and understanding of the patient journey.
- Scientific agility: excellent communication and presentation skills, strong learning mindset, and proficiency in data‑driven insights.
- Analytical capability to analyze prescribing patterns, market trends, and HCP preferences, and use CE^3 for dynamic call planning.
- Technological agility: ability to use digital communication channels and technology tools (CE^3, CRM, Medical on Call).
- High integrity and sound judgment in navigating role requirements.
- Qualified Driver: at least 21 years of age, valid driver's license in good standing, and acceptable driving risk deemed by the Company.
- Field – United States – $144,500 – $175,100 (base).
- Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities may be available based on eligibility.
- Final individual compensation is determined by demonstrated experience.
