Business Development Manager – Fire Protection and Water Works (Midwest USA) Job Description
The BDM for Fire Protection and Water Works will be responsible for developing and managing relationships with Fire Protection Contractors, Fire Distributors, Manufacturer’s Representatives, Fire Engineers, Water Works Distributors, and Municipalities throughout the Midwest region. The role will also identify key contractors, understand their needs and purchasing processes, create demand to grow market share, and support Zurn Elkay’s sales network.
Key Accountabilities- Contractor Relationship Development
- Distributor Relationship Development
- Be involved in industry associations
- Market Understanding and Strategy
- Analyze buying habits and decision‑making processes at the contractor and distributor level
- Drive specification (Basis of Design) at the engineer and design‑build contractor levels
- Work closely with local manufacturers representatives to strengthen brand awareness
- Provide technical assistance and on‑site support to contractors, resolving any job‑site issues promptly
- Pipeline and CRM Management
- Provide regular updates on sales and relationship‑building efforts
- Increase market share and product/brand demand
- Promote and position Fire Protection and Water Works products as the preferred brand of choice for contractors, distributors, and engineers
- Technical training and presentations to large audiences
- Understand market drivers, technical trends, and customer requirements, and analyze competitive landscape
- Conduct backflow testing training classes to teach backflow testing and device operation
- Provide qualitative voice‑of‑customer feedback to new product development teams on existing products, new products, and competitor offerings
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in marketing or business management
- Proven 3 to 5 years sales management/technical experience, including distribution calling on owners, specifiers, and contractors for fire protection
- Strong customer relationship skills and delivery of customer‑centric solutions
- Depth in establishing strategic accounts and managing product development projects
- High energy, sense of urgency, and enthusiasm for new opportunities and challenges
- Accountability for meeting commitments and deadlines
- Ability to produce and execute detailed marketing plans and profitably grow sales revenue
- Strong communication skills (written and oral) and collaborative teamwork
- Self‑motivated, dependable, and ethically driven
- Strong PC‑based computing and Microsoft Office skills
- Analytical, detail‑oriented, and strategic thinking
- Must reside within the defined territory:
Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota - Travel up to 75%
$108,000 – $147,000
