Position Summary
The Senior Therapeutic Area Specialist (TAS) plays a critical role within BMS’s customer model, driving adoption of BMS medicines through scientific engagement with healthcare providers (HCPs). The TAS creates demand for BMS products, builds credibility with regional thought leaders and community physicians, and collaborates cross‑functionally to deliver a differentiated customer experience while focusing on safe and appropriate use of BMS products.
- Portfolio Promotion
- Promote approved indications of BMS products within a defined territory to meet or exceed assigned sales targets in a compliant manner.
- Articulate the clinical and scientific rationale for product use in appropriate patients.
- Maintain and grow scientific expertise in all assigned products and therapeutic areas.
- Prepare and execute comprehensive territory and account plans.
- Use tools such as SOPHIA to derive insights and inform call plans; provide feedback to leadership.
- Fair & Balanced Scientific Dialogue
- Demonstrate scientific expertise and use approved resources to present accurate information consistent with label.
- Conduct in‑office presentations and discuss product information with HCPs.
- Organize external speaker programs, selecting approved speakers and managing logistics.
- Stay current on emerging data for approved indications.
- Provide real‑time medical support via Medical on Call for unsolicited questions and technical inquiries.
- Cross‑functional Collaboration
- Collaborate proactively with other field teams to enhance the customer experience.
- Share insights and information internally to better serve customers.
- Comply with all relevant laws, regulations, and BMS policies.
- Advanced scientific degree (PhD, MD, PharmD, or equivalent).
- Preferred 5+ years of experience in pharmaceutical or biotechnology sales, medical science liaison, HCP relationships, or nursing.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate scientific data accurately and convincingly.
- Experience building credibility with key customers and the broader customer influence network.
- Preferred experience in cardiovascular therapeutics.
- Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales goals and strong account management skills.
- Strong cross‑functional collaboration, positive team mindset, and can‑do attitude.
- Customer/Commercial Mindset – Drive business results, engage customers across the patient care journey, and customize engagement.
- Patient Centricity – Understand patient journey and maintain a patient‑focused mindset.
- Scientific Agility – Communicate and present scientific data clearly, stay current with latest data, and leverage CE³ for insights.
- Analytical Capability – Analyze prescribing patterns, market trends, and HCP preferences to tailor communication.
- Digital Agility – Utilize digital communication channels, CRM tools, and Medical on Call technology effectively.
- Teamwork/Enterprise Mindset – Demonstrate business acumen, learning agility, integrity, and collaborative attitude.
- Operation of a company‑provided vehicle is required. Eligibility for “Qualified Driver” includes:
- At least 21 years of age.
- Valid driver’s license in good standing.
- Acceptable driving risk level as determined by the company.
Field – United States – US: $124,090 – $150,370 (base salary). Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities may be available. Final compensation will be decided based on experience.
