this position will provide safety and security within an adult correctional facility and direct the activities of staff and supervise inmates.

ensure security is maintained by enforcing:

• post orders
• policies
• providing directions through use of good judgment, professionalism and attention to duty

• new mexico corrections department (nmcd) staff
• public and private partners
• community members

experience in the following:

• adult correctional facility
• correctional environment

high school diploma or equivalency and two (2) years of experience in a correctional setting, law enforcement and/or military experience.

this position is safety sensitive. Employment is subject to a pre‑employment and random drug testing in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state rules and regulations regarding alcohol and/or drug testing. In addition, candidates must pass pre‑employment academy screening. For all custody positions, successful completion of the new mexico corrections academy is required. Must possess and maintain a valid new mexico drivers license.

The applicant must be a u.s. Citizen, must be at least 18 years old, have at least a high school education or its equivalent, be of good moral character, have not been convicted of a felony in the courts of this or any state or in the federal courts, and successfully pass any physical and aptitude examination the department may require.

Employment is subject to a pre‑employment background investigation and is conditional pending results.

work is performed in an adult prison environment, which includes daily contact with and supervision of inmates. Willingness to work in a correctional facility, may be required to work odd hours, overtime, holidays, and weekends.

this position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement and all terms/conditions of that agreement apply and must be adhered to.
