Job Description
SUMMARY

Under general supervision, perform journey-level work in the design, installation, construction, modification, repair and maintenance of electrical apparatuses, equipment and systems; act as lead worker to other classified staff in the area; and perform related work as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Installs and repairs electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical and electronic components of industrial machinery and equipment, following electrical code, manuals, schematic diagrams, blueprints, and other specifications, using hand tools, power tools, and electrical and electronic test equipment:
Installs power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment, such as robots, conveyors, and programmable controllers, following electrical code and blueprints, using hand tools and voltage tester.

Connects power supply wires to machines and equipment, and connects cables and wires between machines and equipment, following manuals, schematic diagrams, and blueprints, using hand tools and test equipment.

Diagnoses malfunctioning apparatus, such as transformers, motors, and lighting fixtures, using test equipment, and replaces damaged or broken wires and cables, using hand tools.

Tests malfunctioning machinery, using test equipment, and discusses malfunction with other maintenance workers.

Replaces faulty electrical components of machine, such as relays, switches, and motors, and positions sensing devices, using hand tools.

Diagnoses and repairs or replaces faulty electronic components, such as printed circuit boards.

May diagnose and replace faulty mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of machines and equipment.

Perform repairs on aerial components of lighting fixtures that require use of an elevated work platform (bucket truck).

Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

No supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision. Incumbents inspect, isolate, troubleshoot and repair electrical malfunctions using various test instruments; maintain and repair fire, alarm, clock, programmable lighting and access systems; test electrical equipment for safety and efficiency; plan the layout and wiring of new or remodeled installations; fabricate electrical parts; inspect completed work for conformance with specifications, requirements and compliance with applicable building and safety codes and regulations;

inspect related work performed by contractors; estimate cost, time and materials for electrical projects; participate in the maintenance and operations of an electrical shop; clean, maintain and service tools and equipment used in the performance of duties.
