Overview
Adjusts, maintains, repairs, and replaces doors, restroom partitions, mechanical and electronic door locks, padlocks, tumbler locks, combination locks, and various other lock hardware such as panic bars, door checks, latches, catches, fasteners, and door closures. Designs master key systems which include sub-master and single keys, cuts keys, and maintains records to ensure effective operation and security of buildings.
Complies with the Code of Ethics of the Education Profession; upholds and enforces rules, administrative directives, regulations, GISD school board policies, as well as local, state and federal regulations.
Installs mechanical and electronic locks and locking systems in all doors, cabinets, drawers and security areas as requested.
Installs and re-combinates pin tumbler lock cylinders to maintain established master and grand master key systems.
Maintains records showing key issuance as keys are distributed to necessary persons and insures that each person receiving keys signs the established key control agreement.
Researches and obtains price quotes for purchasing the necessary locksmith specialty supplies and equipment.
Troubleshoots and programs electronic door access controls.
Maintains in a locked storage area all key blanks, key combinations and master pin; sets accessible only to locksmith immediate supervisor.
Opens locks when needed by means of lock pick or by drilling to remove cores when necessary.
Cuts keys as needed, guards against key theft and misuse of District keys.
Installs doors, door hinges, glass and door closures as necessary to provide functioning interior and exterior doors.
Provides adjustments, replacements and repairs to all types of door closures and door bumpers.
Aligns and straightens doors as necessary and required to insure proper operation of interior and exterior doors.
Ensures that installed doors are properly sealed or painted by means of work order generation and follow-up.
Installs or works with contract labor and or other trades to ensure proper installation related to locksmith duties.
Handles requests for service and repair for the position of locksmith.
Maintains shop and master key records.
Provides technical guidance in the selection and use of locking hardware.
Wears only uniforms, provided by the district.
Maintains tools and equipment and performs preventive maintenance as required.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision. Ability to properly use and care for job related tools.
Education and/or Experience- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Valid Driver’s License
- Valid New Mexico or Texas Driver License
- Certified Registered Locksmith (CRL) by Associated Locksmiths of America or completed Door & Hardware Technician (DHT) credential by the Door and Hardware Institute, preferred.
- Ability to use multiple software and platforms.
- Knowledge of Google Suites
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites
Ability to read and interpret documents in English such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to add and subtract two digit numbers. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
