Job Description
SUMMARY
Responsible for installing, inspecting, maintaining, and repairing fire alarm systems or components in school
district buildings, ensuring they function properly and according to local and national fire codes. Works and
coordinates with Fire Sprinkler Technicians and any other fire service contractors when required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Complies with the Code of Ethics of the Education Profession; upholds and enforces rules, administrative
- directives, regulations, GISD school board policies, as well as local, state and federal regulations.
- All functions are performed in accordance with established policies, procedures, safety and computer security
- regulations.
- Installation:
- Read blueprints/engineer drawings and project specifications to understand system layout.
- Ability to install wiring and components associated with fire alarm systems.
- Drill penetrations through walls and floors for wiring/conduit if needed.
- Maintenance and Inspection:
- Conduct routine inspections and testing of fire alarm systems and components to identify potential
- issues.
- Daily review of alarm monitoring reports and investigate trouble reported.
- Perform necessary repairs and replacements on damaged or malfunctioning components.
- Schedule and accompany fire inspection contractors on annual/semi-annual and quarterly
- inspections.
- Accompany fire marshal during inspections of district facilities.
- Implement and document fire watch operations when necessary
- Troubleshooting and Repair:
- o Diagnose system malfunctions by analyzing error codes and system behavior.
- o Identify and address code violations
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed records of inspections, repairs, and system modifications
- Generate reports detailing findings and recommended actions
- Communicate with supervisors regarding system status
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- No supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The

Familiarity with low voltage wiring and electrical systems. Knowledge of local, state, and national fire safety codes
and regulations.
Knowledge of fire and life safety codes and regulations, proper handling of tools and equipment
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Associate's degree in related field
- Valid Driver's License
- TECHNOLOGY SKILLS
- Ability to use multiple warehouse/tracking software and platforms.
- Knowledge of Google Suites
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites
- LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to read and interpret documents in English such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and
- procedure manuals.
- MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
- Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money
- and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
- REASONING ABILITY
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Valid Driver's License
- NICET Certified Fire Alarm Certification or NICET Inspection and Testing Fire Alarm Certification, and
- current State of New Mexico ES-3J Journeyman sound, intercommunication, electrical alarm systems, and
- systems 50 volts and under.
