The Laborer must have basic knowledge of and demonstrated experience with basic construction-type work, basic understanding of operating a variety of equipment, including hand and power tools, and familiarity with safe work practices, PPE usage, and policies, as well as safe driving rules and practices.
EDUCATION/TRAINING- High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED). One to five (1-5) years of directly related construction experience; or an equivalent sufficient experience, including an apprenticeship program or vocational/technical school, and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job as listed below.
- Basic knowledge of and demonstrated experience with basic construction-type work.
- Basic understanding of operating a variety of equipment, including hand and power tools.
- Familiarity with safe work practices, PPE usage, and policies, as well as safe driving rules and practices.
- Load, unload, and identify materials, machinery, and tools, and distribute them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans and specifications.
- Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards, including bush cutting and cleaning up any debris.
- Control traffic passing near, in, and around work zones.
- Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, and compact and level earth to grade specifications, using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers, and rakes.
- Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials.
- Other Duties as assigned.
- Basic computer skills, Outlook, Teams, and Timesheet entry.
- Ability to read and understand work orders and organize work with minimum supervision.
- Ability to work effectively and amicably with co-workers, and other people (Supervisor, Subordinates, Supplies, Customers).
- Ability to hear and speak, to communicate in person and over the telephone and/or radio.
- Ability to operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
- Ability to work independently or in a team situation.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
- Possess basic problem-solving and math skills.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background check, which includes 7-year employment verification, Department of Motor Vehicles record search, criminal record search, and verification of education, certifications, and licenses as applicable to the position.
- Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug screens.
- Must be available for regular standby assignments and work scheduled off-hours and emergency overtime as required.
- Must be available for short-term work assignments that involve overnight travel.
- Must possess a valid, unrestricted driver’s license and acceptable driving record in the state of employment.
- Must be able to pass pre-employment background screening.
- Must possess own hand tools and basic power tools as required for carpentry.
- Must be able to obtain a favorable National Agency Check (NAC) per contract.
- Must complete all mandated training requirements per government and management directives.
- Must be proficient in the English Language per contract.
- OSHA 10 Certification.
- Must possess strength, stamina, and mobility to perform heavy physical work outdoors in all weather conditions and with exposure to potentially hazardous conditions.
- Use varied hand and power tools and move materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and heavier weights with the use of proper equipment.
- Must be able to stand, walk, and sit for prolonged periods.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, climb, balance, reach, stretch, kneel, and squat.
- Must be able to perform repetitive tasks or motions for prolonged periods.
- Must be able to ascend or descend ladders and/or traverse scaffolding.
- Must be able to work in personal protective clothing and equipment, such as a fall protection harness, protective-toe footwear, gloves, a hard hat, and hearing protection.
- This is an on-site position that requires work to be performed onsite at an Aleut location.
