Po s i t i o n S umm a r y :

Bus Driver will report directly to the Transit Operations Supervisor; bus driver operates the assigned school buses for the purpose s of providing transportation between Pueblo villages, t ransport ing students to and from schools, recreational activities or fi eld trips. Provides regular scheduled pickups and drop offs ; r espond s to special needs requests on an as needed basis.

O perat es bus on a set schedule and ensur es passengers are on time.

Follows procedures to ensure passenger safety.

Obeys traffic laws and local, state, and federal transit regulations.

Maintain s and follow s established bus routes (specified pick up and drop off locations) .

P erform s the Pre-Trip and Post Trip inspection before and after each trip.

I nspect s the bus for damage, tire inflation and pressure, fuel, and other fluids levels, and cleanliness prior to and after each shift. Keeps w indows and mirrors (inside and out) clean.

Maintain accurate vehicle maintenance records, inspection records, and passenger logs. Ensures that f loor surfaces are kept free of any obstructions . Inspects seating surfaces .

Collects a ny items left in the bus and takes items to the lost and found located in the supervisor’s office.

Participate s in recreational activities and field trips as support staff.

Other duties as assigned to include transit operation services .

M i n i mu m Q u a l i f i c a t i o ns :

High School diploma or GED; employee must have and maintain or be able to obtain within 90 days of hire, a New Mexico Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) class B with “P” and “S” endorsement and be insurable under the Pueblo’s insurance ; must be able to successfully pa s s a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation including a motor vehicle check and be insurable under the Pueblo’s insurance.

Knowledge of New Mexico State Motor Vehicle Code and Education Code applicable

to the operation of vehicles transporting students.

Knowledge of operational characteristics of school transportation vehicle .

Knowledge of policies and procedures governing the reporting of vehicle accidents and incidents.

Knowledge of principles and practices of first aid and CPR.

Knowledge of methods and techniques of basic vehicle preventative maintenance.

Knowledge of methods and techniques of enforcing safety regulations on a school

transportation vehicle.

Knowledge of principles and procedures of record keeping.

Knowledge of safe driving practices as they relate to school transportation.

Ability to meet schedules and deadlines.

Ability to work independently with minimal direction.

Ability to maintain confidentiality of privileged information in the course of work.

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
