The Lee H. Kellogg School is seeking a Long-Term / Interim Science Teacher for grades K–8. This is an extended assignment beginning on or around February 2, 2025, and continuing through the end of the 2025–2026 school year. This role is responsible for delivering high-quality, inquiry-based science instruction while supporting student growth in academic and social‑emotional skills.

Position

Purpose:

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the Science Teacher will facilitate student success by implementing district-approved curriculum, delivering instruction aligned to NGSS standards, differentiating to meet individual student needs, and fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree required (Master's preferred)
  • Must hold or be eligible for a valid Connecticut Teaching Certification (elementary and/or science preferred)
  • Experience or coursework in science content strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of Common Core, NGSS, inquiry-based learning, and differentiation
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Proficiency with instructional technology
  • Ability to maintain confidential information
  • Must pass federal and local background checks
  • Reliable transportation required
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Deliver engaging K–8 science instruction and content‑area literacy to support scientific thinking
  • Foster a student‑centered, inquiry‑based classroom environment
  • Integrate and model social‑emotional learning and self‑advocacy skills
  • Assess student performance and use data to guide instruction
  • Participate in MTSS, data, team, staff, attendance, and climate meetings
  • Communicate proactively with families regarding student progress and classroom learning
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, support staff, and administration to ensure continuity of instruction
  • Attend professional learning aligned with district initiatives
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the school or district
Compensation:
  • Days 60-179:
    Step 1 BA or recommendation from the Superintendent (BA and 12‑semester hrs of credit in the content area OR 2 yrs experience as a para educator, must submit ED175 to the State, OR DSAP, OR Extension of substitute teacher authorization)
Requirements:
  • Must pass federal and local background checks.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Must complete all pre‑employment requirements before the start date.
  • Applicants will be screened on an ongoing basis; early applications are encouraged.
  • Interviews with a possible second interview and sample lesson.
