General Scope of Function:
The Home Teaching Instructor/Tutor provides individualized instruction to students who are unable to attend school due to documented and approved reasons. The tutor works closely with the student's teachers and school personnel to deliver curriculum aligned instruction and help students maintain academic progress during their short-term absence. Instruction will occur in a public setting, or in special circumstances, virtually.
Preffered Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/ or abilities required:
- Connecticut Secondary Certification
- Familiarity with IEPs, 504 plans and individualized instruction.
- Minimum of 2 years experience in the field of education.
- Effective communication skills, both written and oral communication.
- Ability to work collegially and collaborate with other teachers and administrators.
- Possess excellent organizational skills.
- Provide one-to-one (or on rare occasion small group) instruction in accordance with the student's general education curriculum.
- Coordinate with the school and classroom teacher to gather assignments, material and instructional plans.
- Deliver instruction in the identified core subject as needed.
- Monitor student progress and provide regular updates to school personnel and parent/guardians.
- Maintain accurate records of instructional hours, attendance and student performance.
- Adapt teaching strategies to meet diverse learning needs and medical limitations.
- Ensure a safe, respectful and supportive learning environment.
- Comply with all district, state and federal policies regarding student instruction and confidentiality.
- Additional related tasks as discussed with the building principal and/or designee
Physical Activity:
The position will require infrequent lifting, pulling, or pushing during the normal performance of the tasks and responsibilities. Work may require frequent walking and standing.
Work Environment:
Work is performed in an identified public setting or virtual, when approved.
Terms of Employment:
This is an extra compensation position paid in alignment with the district hourly compensation rate for home instruction.
Candidates must supply 2 current, dated and signed letters of reference (no earlier than 2024), resume, copy of transcripts. All documents must be uploaded to online application.
