Position: BUILDING PLAN REVIEWER (CLASS CODE 4245)

Building Plan Examiner

Under general supervision, checks residential and commercial building plans and designs to assure conformance with pertinent codes, ordinances and regulations. Work includes assisting contractors, architects, engineers and the public concerning construction requirements. Work also includes monitoring and initiating general building code review correspondence and coordinates the implementation of required changes during ongoing construction projects; and related work as required.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering or a closely related degree. AND one (1) year of experience in architecture, building inspection, or plan examination. OR Active Certification as a Building Plan Examiner from the International Code Council. OR A high school diploma or GED and five (5) years of responsible experience in residential or commercial plan review, residential general contracting or building construction management.

Important:
Employees will be required to obtain certification by the International Code Council (ICC) as a Building Plans Examiner prior to the end of their probationary period. Failure to meet this requirement during the probationary period will result in termination. A current Louisiana Architecture license may be substituted for this requirement. Prior to appointment, the hiring agency is required to verify education and/or professional licenses/certifications claimed by the applicant to qualify for this classification.

If selected for hire, applicants must provide original documents of their qualifying credentials to the hiring agency prior to their start date in this job classification.
