Position: Assistant Professor (tenure-track) in German and Comparative Literature
The Department of Comparative Literature at Tulane University invites applications for a tenure-line position at the rank of Assistant Professor. We seek a comparatist specializing in German literature, film, thought, and culture of the long 20th century. Additional areas of interest include (but are not limited to) transnational and diasporic movements, gender and sexuality studies, 19th-21st-century philosophy and literary, critical, and political theory.

The start date for the position is July 1, 2026.

This recruitment is part of an expansion phase for both the Department and the German Program, as we look to broaden our academic offerings and research capabilities. The Tulane University School of Liberal Arts has also recently established a Global Humanities Program with opportunities for post-doctoral fellows and faculty. Our campus is located in a great American port city, a historic site of multilingual, multiethnic and multicultural encounter and a gateway for migration over several centuries.

Candidates should be committed to interdisciplinary and comparative studies, have an established record of scholarship, demonstrated excellence in teaching, and the ability to create new courses and teach a variety of literary and cultural topics in both English and German to draw students to both Comparative Literature and German. They should exhibit potential for and experience in academic program development and be ready to contribute to the formation of a new and growing department.

We are particularly interested in candidates whose work complements and enhances our faculty's areas of focus, contributing to our vision of a dynamic, interdisciplinary, and transnational approach to literature and cultural studies. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in active research and participate in departmental and university service. The teaching load for tenure-line faculty is two courses per semester.
