Position: Instructor of Performance Studies

Instructor Position in Performance Studies

The School of the Arts/Department of Film and Theatre at LSU New Orleans invites applications for a non-tenure-track Instructor position in Performance Studies with an expertise in Acting for the Stage, Voice, Movement, and/or Directing and Theory. A secondary expertise in Costume Design, History, Construction, and Shop Management is also highly desirable. The successful candidate will be an inspiring individual dedicated to mentorship, with a deep understanding of the history of Theatrical presentation, application, and pedagogy, and a creative approach to the future of teaching and the art at the national, regional, and community levels.

This position is responsible for 12 academic units per semester (4/4).

Responsibilities include teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in Film and Theatre as needed, as well as other courses that are within the candidate's secondary area of expertise. Other responsibilities include acting as the multi-section coordinator and mentor for undergraduate Performance courses taught by Graduate Teaching Assistants and/or Adjunct Faculty, production assignments (design, directing) on 1 show per semester (minimum), Costume Shop management for 4 Theatre LSU New Orleans productions per academic year and Film projects as needed, supervision of Graduate Assistants in Production areas, curriculum and institutional effectiveness management (with the Program Coordinator), Comprehensive and Thesis committee service, recruitment, community outreach, inclusion on department, school, college and/or university committees, and other support of the administrative functions of the unit.

Required Qualifications

  • MFA or equivalent terminal degree; or commensurate professional experience in the fields of Performance, Directing, Design, and/or Pedagogy
  • Evidence of teaching excellence at the University level

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrable expertise in Costume Design, History, Construction, and Shop Management
  • A successful history of grant writing, fundraising, entrepreneurship, and/or community building
