Assistant Professor Of Practice In Neuroscience

The Department of Psychology at LSU New Orleans invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of Practice, beginning January 6, 2027 (Spring semester 2027). This is a teaching-focused, non-tenure-track appointment centered on instruction, curriculum development, and program growth. We are especially interested in candidates who see university teaching as their primary professional focus and who want to help grow a new program.

The successful candidate will play a central role in shaping the curriculum of the University's new interdisciplinary undergraduate Neuroscience program.

Responsibilities include teaching 12 credit hours per semester during the academic year, contributing to instruction in the new interdisciplinary Neuroscience program and in existing Psychology courses, developing, deploying, and coordinating laboratory courses, teaching large-enrollment introductory courses in in-person and/or online asynchronous formats, contributing to program growth, including curriculum development, course scheduling and coordination, student advising and mentoring, program assessment, and recruitment and retention activities, and participating in departmental and program service appropriate to a teaching-focused appointment.

Required application materials include a letter of application addressing interest in a teaching-focused, program-building role, curriculum vitae, names and contact information for three references, and a teaching dossier including a statement of teaching philosophy and experience, two sample syllabi, summaries of student evaluations for the three most recently taught courses, and at least one peer teaching observation or other evidence of teaching effectiveness beyond student ratings.

Letters of recommendation and official transcripts will be requested from finalists.

Required qualifications include a doctoral degree in Neuroscience, Psychology, or a closely related field, prior to the appointment start date, university-level teaching experience as instructor of record, and documented evidence of teaching effectiveness including student evaluations. Desired qualifications include a sustained record of excellence in undergraduate teaching, experience developing new courses and laboratory curricula, experience teaching large-enrollment and/or online asynchronous courses, and experience with program-level assessment, accreditation, or curriculum coordination.

Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Applications that do not include the required uploaded documents may not be considered.
