Hydromechanical Engineer
AECOM is seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our Water business line, specializing in large scale mechanical engineering projects to be based anywhere in the United States. In this role, you will design, develop, and oversee the design of large-scale mechanical systems that are critical to water infrastructure.
You will work on a variety of complex projects involving water control structures such as vertical lift gates, radial gates, sluice gates, Tainter gates, sector gates, bulkheads, and stoplogs. Additionally, you will be involved with sizing and specifying winches, wire rope and chain hoisting systems, hydraulic, pneumatic and electric actuators, gear systems, and other precision mechanisms associated with these gates, delivering solutions that meet the highest standards of performance and reliability.
Familiarity with various types of cranes, including Overhead Gantry Cranes and Rail Mounted Gantry Cranes that are associated with these structures is a plus. The ideal candidate will also have experience with large pumps and pumping stations and be experienced with Autodesk CAD software.
Key responsibilities include designing and developing large-scale mechanical systems for water infrastructure projects, creating 3D models using Autodesk Inventor, Autodesk Revit or other mechanical design software for use in design drawings, sizing and selecting hoists, actuators and associated waterworks mechanical systems, conducting engineering calculations and analysis to ensure structural integrity and mechanical performance according to industry standards and specifications, reviewing and approving engineering drawings and vendor submittals, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams including Civil, Structural, and Electrical Engineers, ensuring designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements, preparing technical reports, specifications, and documentation, and supporting proposal development by providing technical input.
Minimum requirements include a Bachelor's Degree from an ABET accredited Mechanical Engineering university program and 6+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education, and Professional Engineering licensure in the United States or ability to obtain licensure within two years.
