Job Description & How to Apply Below
TULANE LAW SCHOOL invites applications for a visiting Clinical Assistant Professor in its Environmental Law Clinic (TELC) during the school year. The visiting professor will provide exemplary representation to the Clinic's clients and provide feedback and close supervision to second and third-year student attorneys engaged in direct representation of those clients.
Founded in 1989, the TELC is among the earliest waves of environmental law clinics in the country and is a key component to Tulane Law School's nationally ranked Environmental Law program. Since its inception, TELC has provided free legal representation on environmental and public access issues to hundreds of low-income individuals, community groups and environmental groups in Louisiana, with a focus on disproportionately impacted low-income, Black fence-line communities along the Mississippi River industrial corridor and in southwest Louisiana.
For a recent report of our work, see TELC Annual Report WEB (tulane.edu)
As part of a vibrant program of eight in-house clinics, TELC has the dual goal of providing law students with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in the practice of law and to meet the high demand for pro bono legal services to underserved clients before state and federal agencies as well as state and federal district and appellate courts.
The successful candidate must possess: a J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school; membership, in good standing, of at least one state bar or the intention to sit for the bar in the near future; strong academic credentials; and at least two years of relevant experience. Knowledge of federal environmental laws and at least three years of relevant experience is preferred.
Tulane University is an equal opportunity educator and employer committed to providing an education and employment environment free of unlawful discrimination, harassment, and retaliation. Legally protected demographic classifications (such as a person's race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, shared ancestry, disability, genetics, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state, or local laws) are not relied upon as an eligibility, selection or participation criteria for Tulane's employment or educational programs or activities.
