Position: EQUIPMENT OPERATOR I (CLASS CODE 2320)

minimum qualifications

a current louisiana driver's license. Applicants must have their driver's license in their possession during all phases of the examination, or they will not be admitted to the examination.*

applicants must have a good driving record. Applicants who have a record of two or more moving violations, or one or more "driving while intoxicated violations" within the last eighteen (18) months will not be eligible for employment in this classification. applicants may be hired pending the results of a traffic violations check, but any applicant so hired and later found to be in violation of these requirements shall be dismissed during his/her probationary period.

note: some positions may require driving a standard shift truck. note: for positions in which drivers will be driving a commercial vehicle with a gross vehicle weight for over 8,000 lbs. But less than 26,000 lbs., a louisiana driver's license (class "d") is required. Selective certification based on possession of this license will be allowed. If candidates are applying for a position driving commercial vehicles, the louisiana driver's license (class "d") must be verified.

a qualifying written test which may include questions regarding knowledge of traffic regulations, vehicle care, vehicle operation, ability to read and follow directions relating to safety, maintenance and work procedures.

domicile requirements for employment : domicile requirements are currently waived for the purpose of application. However, all new full-time employees hired into this classification on or after january 1, 2013, must be domiciled in orleans parish within 180 days of hire. Public safety employees such as commissioned law enforcement officers hired by the new orleans police department (nopd), firefighters hired by the new orleans fire department (nofd), emergency medical technicians hired by the new orleans emergency medical services (noems) and the recruits for these positions hired by these departments are excluded from this provision.

Airport employees are excluded from this provision if the actual domicile of the employee is nearer to the employee's job site than the distance from the job site to the nearest point of orleans parish.
