Nurse Educator – Clinical Staff Development/Employee Health (RN)

River Oaks Hospital (a UHS affiliated hospital), located in metropolitan New Orleans, Louisiana, is a private psychiatric facility for adults, adolescents and children. Since 1970, River Oaks has established a tradition of excellence in the treatment of acute psychiatric illness, dual diagnosis, alcohol and drug detoxification, trauma based disorders, compulsive behaviors, and eating disorders. River Oaks has provided quality treatment to service individuals suffering from mental illness, and/or addictive disorders.

Situated on a 14-acre campus, services are available at all levels of care (inpatient, day or partial hospitalization, outpatient, and intensive outpatient).

River Oaks Hospital is seeking a dynamic and talented Nurse Educator – Clinical Staff Development/Employee Health (RN). Sign on bonus $5,000

The RN Clinical Educator is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing professional development and competency-based education for registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, mental health technicians, and other designated clinical personnel. The educator leads the clinical components of onboarding, including Week Two nursing and MHT orientation, unit-based skills validation, preceptor development, annual clinical competencies, remediation, and continuing clinical education. The position coordinates designated clinical training related to suicide risk assessment, verbal de-escalation, crisis prevention, restraint and seclusion, age-appropriate care, emergency response, and other patient-safety priorities.

The educator maintains clinical education records and assigned LMS content, evaluates training effectiveness, supports regulatory readiness, and serves as the clinical liaison for nursing students and approved nursing-school affiliations.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Required:

  • Experience:

    Minimum three years of experience preferably in behavioral health. Prior clinical experience and recent psychiatric nursing experience is preferred. At least one year of nursing education, RN staff development, clinical education, precepting, or competency-validation experience required. Experience with adult-learning principles, curriculum development, skills validation learning-management systems, and regulatory readiness.
  • Current CPR certification; instructor certification preferred
  • Current Handle with Care certification; instructor authorization preferred.
  • NPD-BC or comparable nursing-education certification preferred.
  • Education:

    Bachelor of Science in Nursing required. Master's degree in Nursing, Nursing Education, or related clinical field preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification:
    Current, unencumbered RN license valid for practice in Louisiana or Compact Nurse License Louisiana RN licensure requirements
  • Working Knowledge:
    Good communication and presentation skills. Ability to present information and ideas essential to Staff Training. Investigative interviewing methods and techniques; crisis intervention techniques; and federal, state and local ordinances and policies regarding abuse, neglect and related patient rights issues. Process of general office environment.
  • Essential Technical/Motor

    Skills:

    Computer software and keyboard proficiency, ability to operate various types of office equipment such as copier, scanner, and fax machines, phone systems, etc. required. Must be able to bend, lift, and reach office supplies and files.
