Extension Educator, Agriculture and Natural Resources – Tuscarawas County
County Extension Educator – Tuscarawas County, Agriculture and Natural Resources, New Philadelphia, OH / Area 14
Salary: $42,100 to $72,700 (determined by level and experience)
- Extension Educator 1: Requires a bachelor’s degree. Salary Range: $42,100 – $55,000.
- Extension Educator 2: Requires a master’s degree. Salary Range: $47,700 – $62,300.
- Extension Educator 3: Requires a master’s degree and 11+ years of direct or related work experience. Salary Range: $55,700 – $72,700.
Job Responsibilities: Provide guidance and leadership for Agriculture and Natural Resources programming targeted to local and regional needs. Utilize formal and informal community assessment methods to identify educational needs and opportunities. Design, implement and teach educational programs for adults and youth, and may convene and facilitate community coalitions. Develop promotional material, lead committees and volunteers, and build partnerships to support program goals.
Communicate effectively with clients through newsletters, blogs, and social media. Evaluate programs using existing assessment tools and work with county representatives on funding and budgets. Secure external funds when possible.
- Plan, teach, disseminate, and evaluate educational programs on local issues such as agronomic crops, farm management, horticulture, pest management, water quality, food safety, natural resources, rural economic development, biotechnology, and alternative agricultural commodities. Provide direction and leadership, maintain visibility, and facilitate communication with a wide range of clients and stakeholders.
- Develop and collaborate with local advisory committees, agencies, educational institutions, county commissioners, and community forums to assess needs and evaluate Extension programs.
- Maintain a professional development program in selected subject areas; collaborate across all Extension program areas (FCS, ANR, 4H, CD) to foster interdisciplinary work.
- Use media to outreach new and existing audiences, develop promotional and educational materials, and participate in community functions.
- Provide a minimum of 10% statewide specialization in an appropriate area to the state Extension professionals.
Qualifications: An earned bachelor’s or master’s degree at the time of hire is required. Preference will be given to candidates with a degree in Agriculture or a related area such as natural resources, animal sciences, environmental sciences, or horticulture. Applicants must demonstrate effective teaching methods, experience in research-based program delivery, and ability to build and maintain diverse relationships.
Training and work experience related to soil science, agronomy, livestock production, farm management, and natural resources, as well as community engagement, volunteer coordination, and advisory committee work, are desired.
Final candidates are subject to successful completion of a background check and may be required to undergo a drug screen, physical, or psychological screening during the post‑offer process.
