Job OverviewThe role involves supervising clients’ activities and providing crisis intervention in a domestic violence shelter. The occupant must be available to clients during shift hours, sensitive and observant, and maintain accurate logs for other staff.
Essential Functions- Complete required paperwork: client logs, crisis sheets, intake forms, discharge forms and ensure accuracy.
- Answer the crisis line, assess callers for admission or referral to appropriate agencies.
- Respond to the business line and forward messages to staff or relevant departments.
- Attend agency meetings and provide input as assigned.
- Supervise clients and assist with shelter cleaning.
- Maintain a 24‑hour coverage schedule for the shelter.
- Promote efficient use of agency resources.
- Follow the Policies and Procedures of Harbor House, Inc.
- Maintain confidentiality of client information.
- Be knowledgeable about client rights, ADA and related procedures.
- Provide emotional support, safety planning, and active listening to residents.
- Use Hispanic interpreters and the Sorensen system for the deaf population when necessary.
- Deliver linkage and referral services; teach daily living skills; advocate for residents.
- Handle crisis situations calmly, calling the Residential Manager, Case Manager, Counselor, 911, or authorities as needed.
- Interact professionally with staff and residents.
- Model positive staff‑client interactions and conflict resolution.
- Maintain professional boundaries.
- Respect cultural and socioeconomic differences of the shelter population.
- Transport clients to appointments using company or personal vehicle.
- Maintain reliable attendance.
- Participate in planning and implementing shelter events or special projects.
- Complete additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Attend required trainings in trauma‑informed care, LGBTQ population, victim advocacy, legal advocacy, ADA, ethics, cultural diversity, Hispanic population, and other topics.
- Assist clients with filing for a protection order and using the VINE system.
- Track and log outcomes data in the electronic record.
- Manage and monitor home security systems to ensure victim safety.
- Move or transport up to 20 pounds.
- Ascend and descend stairs for client checks.
- Monitor the household and supervise activities beyond crisis intervention.
- Remain alert to potential emergencies such as abuser arrival or client distress.
High School Diploma, or Associate’s Degree, or enrollment in college majoring in sociology, psychology, criminal justice, or a related field, or equivalent work/life experience. Valid Ohio Driver’s License with a clean driving record required.
