Controller (Temp-to-Hire)

Location: New Providence, NJ Area
Schedule: Full-time | Onsite initially, transitioning to a hybrid schedule (3 days in-office / 2 remote) after approximately six months
Compensation: $50-$65/hour (Temp-to-Hire)

Our client is seeking an experienced Controller to lead the accounting function and provide strategic financial leadership. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on CPA who enjoys improving processes, developing teams, and partnering with leadership to drive business performance.

• Lead day-to-day accounting operations, including AP, AR, payroll, general ledger, inventory, and fixed assets.
• Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
• Prepare and review financial statements, account reconciliations, and financial analysis.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and federal, state, and sales & use tax regulations.
• Maintain strong internal controls and coordinate external audits.
• Oversee customer credit approvals and 1099 reporting.
• Analyze inventory valuation, aging, and gross margin performance.
• Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team while driving process improvements.
• Partner with executive leadership to provide financial reporting and business insights.

• CPA license required.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibilities.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting.
• Experience with Quick Books and advanced Excel skills.
• Experience managing audits and working directly with external CPA firms.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
