Aurora Residential Alternatives Mental Health Program assists individuals who are experiencing a mental health crisis, providing comprehensive services in a community‑based setting. Aurora’s skilled mental health technicians support individuals with a wide range of emotional and mental health issues.

Our staff has the advantage of facilitating recreational leisure activities that create opportunities to meet others, engage in social interactions, and develop friendships. Supporting participation in fun social outings and creative activities allows our consumers to pursue their interests, experience new things, and be more involved in their communities.

Responsibilities
  • Seek out opportunities for community/social integration that enables new and exciting experiences
  • Help consumers plan and prepare their choice of fun events and outings
  • Create entertaining individual and group activities
  • Assist and teach skills that create opportunities for socialization and community engagement
  • Utilize consumer strengths to build new skills, achieve goals, and enhance quality of independent living
  • Suggest changes to improve consumer lifestyle
  • Accompany consumers to scheduled medical appointments and communicate changes in medications, treatment orders, or therapies
  • Report changes in consumer’s medical condition or eating habits immediately to supervisor
  • Follow prescribed special dietary programs
  • Implement procedures for infection control in compliance with Infection Control Policy and Exposure Control Policy
  • Exercise sanitary food service, housekeeping, and laundry practices
Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with mental health or substance abuse disorders
  • Age 18 or older
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform the physical tasks described
  • Basic English communication skills
  • Basic reading, writing, and internet navigation skills
  • Experience with adults with disabilities preferred
Float Staff Requirements
  • Work and training schedule obtained only from the Direct Support Coordinator
  • Must be available every other weekend
  • Must maintain a minimum of secondary driver status
  • Must be willing to travel to all operations within the region; drive time paid after 30 minutes from staff residence
  • Drive time reimbursement must be submitted monthly
  • If full time, the employee must maintain a full-time work schedule
  • 2+ years of experience in residential services required
  • Option to get paid before payday
  • Flexible scheduling around availability, and every other weekend off
