Extra Cash: Earn shift differentials from $0.50 to $3.00 per hour depending on shift Earn additional pay incentives up to $5/hour for picking up additional, non-scheduled shifts
POSITION SUMMARY: This position provides professional nursing care for residents to assure the highest degree of quality resident care is maintained at all times within a safe environment; maintains medical records, administers medications, and develops patient care plans in conjunction with other medical professionals; offers emotional and social support, and attends residents' overall physical comfort.
This position is available for Full-Time (PM shift), Part-Time (PM shift), or On-Call.
PM (B Shift) is 2:00pm - 10:30pmESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Provides for resident safety, comfort and well-being.
- Reviews and administers medications.
- Assesses the condition of residents; monitors for changes in condition and responds with appropriate action.
- Communicates resident needs or condition changes to physician, family and other staff.
- Performs various treatments including dressing changes, catheter care and/or insertion, etc.
- Documents tasks regarding medications passed, assessments, communications with physician and family, etc.
- Review resident care plans; completes documentation.
- Compiles information requested for physician reviews.
- Assigns, directs, reviews and trains staff work.
- Cleans, organizes and provides supplies for medical carts and rooms.
- Responds to resident requests by assisting to bathroom, walking, medication requests, etc.
- Provides direct patient care including repositioning, hygiene, assessing skin needs, etc.
- Receives information from prior shift; reports information to following shift.
- Verifies narcotics counts at shift beginning and ending.
- Requests medications from pharmacy; enters new medication orders; transcribes orders; faxes orders to pharmacy; pulls medication to return.
- Reports to oncoming shifts.
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of the principles, standards, practices and techniques of skilled nursing.
- Knowledge of the dangers inherent in and precautions to be taken in the use of drugs and other medication.
- Knowledge of local and state rules, regulations, procedures and policies pertaining to nursing services.
- Ability to assign, instruct, and supervise the work of professional and nonprofessional staff.
- Ability to accurately maintain patient medical records and prepare required reports.
- Knowledge of electronic records systems.
- Knowledge of PPE and its proper use for personal safety measures.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of all resident care information and assure resident rights and privacy are protected at all times per HIPAA.
- Ability to create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, respect, and personal interest, as well as a clean environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully, both verbally and in writing, with residents, families, the public and staff.
- Must be able to exhibit a warm, cheerful caring manner.
- Must be able to safely perform the essential job functions.
- General knowledge of standard office procedures, practices, equipment and office assistance techniques.
- Knowledge of County and department programs and policies.
- Ability to work the allocated hours of the position.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to communicate appropriately/professionally.
- Ability to communicate effectively with other members of the staff, supervisor, and the public.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both written and verbal form.
- Must be proficient in workplace English and spelling.
- Ability to read County policies and procedures; written instructions, general correspondence; SDS sheets, safety manuals, maps, etc.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
- Ability to calculate mathematical calculations.
REASONING ABILITY
- Must be able to remain calm in emergencies by thinking quickly, maintaining self-control, and adapting to stressful situations.
- Ability to understand and effectively carry out verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to develop, interpret and implement nursing practices, policies, and procedures in compliance with Federal, State and local regulations.
