Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering, LLC (ICE) is a full‑service transportation design and consulting firm that delivers comprehensive infrastructure solutions across the U.S. We are hiring experienced Construction Inspectors to support transportation projects in North Carolina.

Remote Status:
Remote

Responsibilities
  • Provide daily observation of construction activities and document activities on required reports and forms.
  • Review construction materials for contract and specification compliance.
  • Inspect roadways and structures for conformance to plans and specifications.
  • Evaluate structural materials, placement of culverts, and structural operations such as foundation excavation.
  • Monitor placement of pilings, reinforcing and structural steel, concrete, and backfill.
  • Verify lines, grades, dimensions, and elevations using survey and field engineering equipment.
  • Perform accurate calculations and computations.
  • Sample and test construction materials to ensure they meet the quality requirements of the project specifications.
  • Review contractor submittals for conformance to project documents and specifications.
  • Document and immediately report any non‑compliance actions and safety violations to your immediate supervisor.
  • Record daily work reports including quantities and an objective description of the work shift activities.
Qualifications
  • Above average math and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to adapt to new technologies and quickly learn new computer skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication in English.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Fleet drivers must possess a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
  • Must complete a pre‑employment screening; ICE is a drug‑free workplace.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology is a plus.
  • Roadway and bridge inspection experience required.
  • Experience working on NCDOT projects.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
Certifications and Training Requirements

Compensation is commensurate with experience and applicable NCDOT certifications. ICE provides training to obtain the following certifications, which are essential for compliance with NCDOT, AASHTO, and ASTM standards.

  • NCDOT Asphalt QMS
  • NCDOT Earthwork (Borrow Pit, ABC Sampling, and Conventional Density Testing)
  • NCDOT Concrete Field Technician
  • Level II Certified Erosion & Sediment Control/Stormwater Site Manager
  • QA Chemical Stabilization Technician
  • Foundations Technician
  • Nuclear Gauge Safety Training
  • Hazmat Training
Safety Requirement

Completion of OSHA 10 certification is required for field work. New hires without current certification must complete the training within two (2) weeks of hire. ICE will provide the training and cover associated costs.

Work Environment &

Physical Requirements
  • Moderate physical activity: walking, standing, bending, climbing stairs or ladders, and occasional lifting up to 80 pounds.
  • Ability to visually discern details and colors and to recognize sounds, tones, and pitches.
  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills necessary.
  • Adaptability to interruptions, changes in workflow, and working in varied environmental conditions (hot, cold, noisy, and with active traffic).
  • May require night and weekend work depending on project scope.
Expected Hours of Work

Standard office hours: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, with an unpaid lunch hour. Work schedules may vary according to project requirements.
