As a Fabrication and Machinist Lead, your primary responsibility is the daily supervision of all fabrication operations within the given facility.

What does the Fabrication and Machinist Lead do at Spec Sys?
  • Provide daily work directions to fabrication personnel
  • Develop employee performance review documentation
  • Document any workplace related injuries and communicate with Safety Director
  • Coordinate orders with management and purchasing department for steel / shop supplies
  • Accurately schedule, and expedite the use of labor, machines, and materials in the fabrication of parts.
  • Identify machine run speeds for accurate scheduling of material fabrication.
  • Communicate accurate parts sequences with shop personnel.
  • Ensure that quality control processes are followed during the various stages of fabrication.
  • Ability to accurately read and interpret blueprints to ensure products are fabricated correctly
  • Ability to understand and willingness to follow existing QC processes
  • Coordinate equipment repairs as needed
  • Adhere to established department budgets for tooling
  • Provide input into fabrication and QC process improvements
  • Follow guidelines to arrange objects or actions in a certain order
  • Install equipment, machines, wiring, or programs to meet specifications.
  • Operate and control equipment. Inspect and evaluate the quality of products
  • Repair machines or systems
  • Detailed knowledge of CNC/NC programming and understanding of geometric tolerances
  • Understanding of computer software such as MS-Word and Excel
  • Employee HR approvals
What are we looking for in a great Fabrication and Machinist Lead?
  • Accurately reads/interprets blueprints that may include mechanical connections/joints, mechanical assembly prints, hydraulic/pneumatic schematics, electrical wiring diagrams
  • Understanding of and the willingness to follow work order instructions, including signing-off of fabrication department dispatches
  • Detailed knowledge of CNC/NC Programming
  • Can design and construct
  • Has good communication and problem solving skills
  • Is comfortable communicating with management and Human Resources
  • Is able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Is able to bend, crawl and be on feet for 8 plus hours per work day
  • Has any combination of education and experience that would provide the required skill and knowledge for successful performance
