Responsible for baking products for orders and to replenish displays while providing courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service.
- Provide prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service, greeting customers, learning their names, and assisting them in locating products.
- Escort customers to desired products, secure out‑of‑reach items, and load/unload heavy items as needed.
- Answer the telephone promptly, take product orders, and provide helpful service to callers.
- Check orders for the day, set up a production schedule, and prepare, bake, and fry all department products as required.
- Review product status and appearance for freshness, inspect for stale dates, and pull expired stock.
- Invoice and put away product as instructed by the department manager.
- Anticipate product needs for the current and upcoming days.
- Inspect incoming products for quality and quantity, report mispicks, and follow up on maintenance issues related to bakery equipment.
- Check signage for correct labels on items and review the department for potential safety hazards.
- Operate as a lead with bakery clerks, prioritizing orders and proving necessary items.
- Pull product from the freezer or cooler as needed and practice proper sanitation procedures, keeping the work area clean and neat.
- Maintain strict adherence to personal hygiene, dress guidelines, and company policies.
- Report to work when scheduled and on time.
- Order supplies and merchandise items for the department (except cake‑decorating items) as directed by the bakery manager.
- Review current shelf product, re‑merchandise the shelf, and dispose of outdated products.
- Write the department schedule, ensure employees are at work on time, and find replacements when necessary in the bakery manager’s absence.
- Assist in other areas of the store as needed.
- Perform other job‑related duties and special projects as required.
- Ability to solve practical problems with limited standardization and interpret instructions.
- Perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
- Copy data from one record to another and interview to obtain basic information.
- Guide people and provide basic direction.
High school diploma or equivalent experience. Department training is helpful. Minimum of six months up to one year of similar or related experience.
Physical RequirementsMust be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Visual requirements include vision from more than 20 inches and less than 20 feet with or without correction, color vision, depth perception, and field of vision. Must be able to stoop, crouch, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and perform repetitive motions.
WorkingConditions
Continually exposed to flour, noise, and temperature extremes. Frequent exposure to dampness, vibrations, equipment movement hazards, and occasional cleaning chemicals/solvents. Fast‑paced work environment with significant pressure.
Equipment Used to Perform Job- Mixers, proof box, ovens, sheeter, rounder, dishwasher, fryer, telephone, intercom, cash register, label machine, shrink‑wrap machine, RPM, and copy cake machine.
Deals with customers and the general public on a daily basis, works with suppliers/vendors weekly, and deals with Federal/State Governmental or Regulatory Agencies yearly.
CompensationAnticipated hourly starting wage: $15.00 to $18.75 depending on experience.
