Staff Accountant

Description We are looking for a skilled Staff Accountant to join our team in New York, NY. This is a long-term contract position ideal for someone who is detail oriented and has a strong background in accounting and financial reporting. The role demands attention to detail and proficiency in handling diverse accounting tasks to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Responsibilities:

- Conduct detailed bank reconciliations to verify financial accuracy.

- Reconcile general ledger accounts for the balance sheet and income statement using Microsoft Excel.

- Record journal entries in compliance with accounting standards.

- Perform account analysis, including variance assessments and budget comparisons.

- Review and categorize general ledger transactions, preparing them for further analysis.

- Identify and correct discrepancies by reclassifying transactions within the general ledger.

- Compile raw financial data into clear and concise reports that adhere to organizational standards.

- Assist with month-end closing procedures and ensure timely completion of all tasks.

- Utilize advanced Excel functions, such as pivot tables, to analyze financial information.

- Collaborate with team members to ensure seamless reporting and accounting processes. Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

- Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience, with knowledge of cash basis or partnership accounting preferred.

- Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with managers and team members.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions like pivot tables.

- Experience with corporate tax, sales tax, and general ledger maintenance.

- Familiarity with accounting software such as Aderant is an advantage.

- Demonstrated ability to manage month-end close activities and bank reconciliations.

- Detail-oriented and capable of producing accurate financial reports within deadlines.
