We are looking for a detail-oriented Bookkeeper to join a nonprofit organization in New York, New York in a Contract to Permanent capacity. This role will provide hands-on accounting support during a period of team transition, helping maintain accurate financial records and keep day-to-day processes running smoothly. The position reports to the Senior Manager Accounting Manager and is well suited for someone who can work independently, adapt quickly, and contribute across core bookkeeping functions.
Responsibilities:
- Enter and maintain daily financial activity in Quick Books Online with a high level of accuracy.
- Review, process, and track employee expense submissions to ensure timely and compliant reimbursement workflows.
- Oversee monthly credit card documentation through Expensify, confirming that receipts are complete and properly matched.
- Reconcile credit card activity against statements and investigate discrepancies as needed.
- Evaluate supporting documentation for expenses to confirm business purpose, coding accuracy, approvals, and policy alignment.
- Contribute to month-end close activities by preparing reconciliations and supporting accounting schedules.
- Provide transactional accounting assistance to reduce workload across the finance team during the recruitment period.
- Support additional accounting assignments and finance-related requests as business needs arise.
Requirements - At least 3 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience with strong attention to detail.
- Prior experience working in a nonprofit accounting environment.
- Proficiency with bookkeeping fundamentals, account reconciliations, and transaction processing.
- Hands-on experience with Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and bank reconciliations.
- Familiarity with Quick Books Online is strongly preferred.
- Experience using Expensify for expense management is preferred.
- Ability to learn new procedures quickly and manage responsibilities with minimal supervision.
