Full Charge Bookkeeper

Description We are looking for a detail-driven Full Charge Bookkeeper to support core accounting activities for a growing electrical contracting business in New York, New York. This position plays an important role in maintaining accurate financial records, coordinating recurring accounting tasks, and ensuring day-to-day transactions are completed on schedule. The ideal candidate brings strong bookkeeping experience, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently while contributing to better financial processes and operational consistency.

Responsibilities:

- Manage the full accounts payable cycle for assigned company activity, including reviewing invoices, assigning proper coding, securing approvals, issuing payments, and responding to vendor inquiries.

- Support payroll administration for union employees by validating documentation, coordinating with operations teams, and helping ensure payroll is processed accurately and on time.

- Examine employee expense submissions for completeness, policy compliance, business purpose, and correct job or cost allocation before approval.

- Reconcile bank accounts, investigate outstanding discrepancies, track cash movement, and keep cash records current and reliable.

- Prepare union-related filings, benefit reporting, remittances, and supporting labor documentation in accordance with reporting requirements.

- Complete sales and use tax filings and maintain organized backup for taxable purchases, resale items, and exempt transactions.

- Contribute to the month-end close by preparing journal entries, reconciling balance sheet accounts, reviewing general ledger activity, and assembling supporting schedules.

- Assist with accounting process improvements, workflow documentation, cross-functional finance support, and financial system implementation efforts as needed. Requirements - Prior experience in full-charge bookkeeping or accounting roles with responsibility for high-volume transactional work and reconciliations.

- Strong working knowledge of accounts payable, payroll support, expense review, bank reconciliations, and month-end close activities.

- Background in construction or contractor accounting environments is highly preferred, especially with job cost tracking and multi-entity operations.

- Familiarity with union reporting requirements, sales and use tax compliance, and labor-related accounting documentation.

- Proficiency in Excel, including working with data exports, account schedules, and large sets of financial information.

- Experience using accounting and expense platforms such as Quick Books, Sage 300, Expensify, payroll systems, or comparable financial software.

- Excellent attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage recurring deadlines with minimal supervision.
