The Wall Street Journal is seeking a Senior Platform Editor to curate and elevate journalism across and the WSJ app. Based in New York, this senior role sits at the center of our digital publishing operation, shaping the experience for subscribers and driving strategy for how our journalism is presented across native platforms.
This editor combines exceptional news judgment, sharp editing skills and strong digital instincts with the ability to make confident, real-time decisions under deadline pressure. The Senior Platform Editor sets lineups, edits and elevates stories and collaborates across the newsroom to deliver timely, distinctive and high-impact journalism, while supervising and guiding the work of other editors.
You Will
+ Set and manage digital lineups for and the WSJ app, balancing breaking news, enterprise and feature journalism.
+ Make high-level publishing decisions in a fast-paced, 24-hour news environment.
+ Edit stories quickly and precisely for clarity, accuracy, balance, fairness, grammar and style.
+ Write sharp, engaging and SEO-optimized headlines, display copy, push notifications and email alerts.
+ Shape compelling digital story packages, including visuals, graphics, captions, related links and metadata.
+ Use audience data and performance metrics to inform programming, packaging and promotion decisions.
+ Optimize content for discoverability through strong SEO, tagging and platform best practices.
+ Coordinate with coverage chiefs and editors to execute strategy on major stories.
+ Supervise the daily work of platform editors and other colleagues, setting priorities and ensuring high standards.
+ Provide clear direction and real-time feedback, helping editors improve performance and decision-making.
+ Help manage workflow, step in to resolve bottlenecks and maintain smooth publishing operations.
+ Uphold Dow Jones standards, ethics and WSJ's distinctive voice and brand.
+ Advocate for native platforms in newsroom discussions and contribute to digital product and workflow improvements.
+ Troubleshoot publishing issues and ensure seamless execution across digital platforms.
You Have
+ Significant newsroom experience, including at least 3+ years in an editing role; senior-level experience preferred.
+ Exceptional news judgment and the ability to make fast, confident decisions under deadline pressure.
+ Demonstrated excellence in editing and headline writing for a digital audience.
+ Experience informally leading or supervising colleagues, with the ability to influence without direct authority.
+ Strong understanding of digital publishing tools, metadata systems and newsroom workflows.
+ Experience using audience data and analytics to inform editorial strategy.
+ Strong visual and presentation judgment to enhance digital storytelling.
+ Familiarity with WSJ's brand, audience and digital and print platforms.
+ Solid numeracy skills and confidence assessing data within stories.
+ Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across teams and time zones.
+ A proactive, flexible mindset and a commitment to high editorial standards and continuous learning.
