Postion Overview
Insurance Insider US is looking to hire reporters as we expand our coverage of the commercial insurance marketplace. This role is ideal for a motivated journalist or industry professional who is eager to develop expertise within the complex insurance market. Reporters will work closely with editors and colleagues across our research and editorial teams to produce exclusive, source-driven reporting and analytical stories for a sophisticated professional audience.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting & Market Coverage
- Build, expand, and maintain a network of insurance market sources to deliver exclusive, source-driven news and analytical stories.
- Pitch original story ideas based on your expertise and conversations with industry sources.
- Identify market trends and write timely stories for an audience of brokers, underwriters, carriers, and advisors.
- Produce real-time stories on a daily basis while meeting editorial deadlines.
- Monitor and respond to relevant public events and wire releases.
- Attend industry events and source development meetings on a regular basis.
- Maintain consistent communication with market sources throughout the day.
- Develop subject matter expertise within a specific insurance market beat.
- Work collaboratively with the research team and cross-border editorial teams.
- Cultivate leads beyond your immediate beat and contribute to broader newsroom reporting initiatives.
- Source-driven investigative journalism within the commercial insurance market.
- Real-time financial and market reporting.
- Industry conferences, networking events, and market engagement.
- Cross-team collaboration with editorial and research groups.
- Developing subject matter expertise in a specialized insurance market sector.
- We will consider early-career candidates who require training as well as experienced candidates with insurance market expertise.
- Candidates with insurance industry experience but limited journalism background will also be considered.
- 2+ years covering financial markets, business journalism, or related sectors is preferred.
- Insurance-specific expertise is not required.
- Proficiency or familiarity with financial data is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to uncover important stories or develop original reporting angles.
- Strong communication skills and ability to build relationships across the insurance and financial services marketplace.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify key material issues.
- Ability to work autonomously while collaborating with broader editorial teams.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Curious, analytical mindset with a willingness to dive into complex topics.
- Positive, proactive work ethic and ability to learn quickly.
