Cetra Ruddy is currently seeking an Interior Designer with specialized experience in multifamily residential projects, particularly in the design and transformation of office spaces into residential buildings.

As an Interior Designer, you will collaborate closely with Designers and project teams to produce detailed drawings, renderings, and presentations that clearly communicate and reinforce design intent. Your work spans multiple project phases from concept through construction and reflects a strong understanding of interior detailing, FF&E specifications, construction documentation, and consultant coordination.

Responsibilities
  • Support Project Managers and senior staff by leading the development of design layouts and frameworks across multiple projects, ensuring alignment with project goals and design intent.
  • Provide mentorship and oversight to Intermediate and Junior Designers, delegating tasks and fostering their growth while ensuring high-quality project execution.
  • Lead the development and refinement of drawings, renderings, and presentation materials for internal reviews, client meetings, coordination, and construction phases.
  • Coordinate directly with developers, architects, and clients to interpret and translate project goals, budgets, and design direction into thoughtful, executable solutions.
  • Guide the creation of space layouts that maximize functionality and comfort, addressing both client's specifications, resident experience and code requirements.
  • Develop and present sophisticated design concepts, mood boards, and presentations that clearly communicate creative vision and support project approvals.
  • Direct the selection and specification of materials, finishes, fixtures, and furnishings, ensuring cohesion with aesthetic goals, technical requirements, and budget constraints.
  • Confirm that all designs meet applicable codes, safety regulations, and accessibility standards, with a thorough understanding of ADA compliance and documentation practices.
  • Lead consultant coordination and guide construction administration efforts for interiors scope, ensuring clarity and alignment across teams and disciplines.
  • Oversee Construction Administration tasks including managing submittals, responding to RFIs, conducting site visits, and participating in punch list walkthroughs.
  • Actively support the management of complex project timelines, deliverables, and team coordination efforts, while maintaining a proactive, solutions-oriented approach.
Skills/Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Interior Design or related field.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in an interior design firm, with at least 4+ years supporting large-scale multifamily residential, adaptive reuse, and hospitality projects.
  • Strong understanding of design principles, aesthetics, and industry-relevant technical knowledge, with the ability to balance creative intent and technical execution.
  • Skilled in coordinating with clients, consultants, and internal teams across project phases, including participation in presentations and translating feedback into clear deliverables.
  • Confident managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while mentoring junior team members and contributing to a collaborative studio culture.
  • Applies strong written and verbal communication skills, with a proactive, team-oriented mindset.
  • Open to engaging in firm-wide initiatives and fostering a positive, inclusive work environment.
  • Licensure is not required for interior design roles, but we encourage employees to pursue professional development, including sustainability certifications such as LEED or WELL. These credentials support our firm's commitment to sustainable design and may align with your project work or career goals.
