Position: Assistant Professor of Medicine at the CUMC -  Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine

The Division of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine at Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) is seeking board-certified or board-eligible clinician educators or clinician scholars at the Assistant Professor level. Candidates must be board certified or eligible in Geriatric Medicine or dually certified in Geriatric Medicine and Hospice/Palliative Medicine.

Clinical Programs

The ambulatory role focused on the development and staffing of a new Columbia Longitudinal Ambulatory Geriatrics Consultation Clinic (CoLAGe) at the NYP-Milstein Campus, with potential clinical activity at additional Columbia Doctors and New York-Presbyterian sites in Manhattan and Westchester. Responsibilities will also include Geriatrics Inpatient Consultation Service across NYP Milstein and Allen campuses.

Position Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include a combination of:

  • Providing an innovative consultative clinic providing comprehensive geriatric assessments for older adults with complex medical and psychosocial needs.
  • Teaching and mentoring trainees across multiple disciplines
  • Will deliver actionable recommendations addressing multimorbidity, polypharmacy, cognitive and functional assessment, advance care planning, and goals-of-care, working closely with primary care and specialty providers.
  • Inpatient responsibilities include geriatrics consultations in the emergency department and inpatient settings, focusing on geriatric syndromes such as delirium, falls, impaired mobility and cognition, multimorbidity, and complex goals-of-care.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary care delivery, quality improvement initiatives aligned with Age-Friendly Health System principles, and education of fellows, residents, and students.
  • Weekend and night call responsibilities are shared equitably across clinical services. Clinical productivity is expected to align with nationally benchmarked standards.
  • Medical Doctor (MD) or equivalent medical professional degree.
  • Board certified or board eligible in Geriatric Medicine (or dual certification with Hospice and Palliative Medicine)
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in New York
