AMDA is seeking passionate, student-centered, and highly qualified part-time adjunct instructors to teach undergraduate English courses for our New York Campus. These courses will be delivered in person on the NY campus. Teaching assignment(s) may include courses within the discipline of English, such as college-level composition, creative writing, critical thinking, literature, etc. Faculty members at AMDA are responsible for providing highly effective instruction through well-prepared classes, relevant assignments, fair and holistic assessment of learning, clear documentation of student progress, and support of academic success for all students.

Courses will be delivered in person and typically meet two days per week for 2-hour sessions. This opportunity is ideal for dynamic educators who are excited to support emerging performing artists in building their academic and communication skills alongside their artistic growth.

Primary Responsibilities:

* Providing instruction in accordance with established curricula, course outlines, and class schedules

* Creating and maintaining an environment which emphasizes learning, encourages free discussion of ideas and critical thinking

* Providing a learning vehicle for diversity and inclusion content

* Evaluating progress of students concerning educational matters and assessing student work

* Maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics

* Maintaining current knowledge in the subject matter areas

* Fulfilling professional responsibilities of a part-time adjunct faculty member

* Maintaining accurate academic records

* Performing other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

* Terminal Degree (Ph.D., D.F.A., Ed.D., or equivalent) in English, Literature, Composition, Comparative Literature, Rhetoric, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.

* A Master's Degree (M.A., M.F.A., M.Ed., etc.) in one of the above disciplines with substantial documented teaching experience at the college or university level

* Extensive experience in higher education, plus a Master's degree in English, literature, comparative literature, or composition

* A minimum of three years of teaching English/Literature/Comparative Literature or Composition in a post-secondary setting

* Experience with innovative teaching methodologies that focus on creating an engaging, student-centered learning environment

* Successful candidates will be able to apply their discipline expertise in a manner/context that is relevant to emerging performing artists.

* Knowledge of and commitment to teaching strategies and practices that enhance student success at higher education institutions, including effective use of technology

* Currency and depth of knowledge in the applicable professional field

* Excellent oral/written communication skills and interpersonal skills

* Commitment to academic excellence, exceptional service and providing a dynamic climate for life-long learning

* Active scholarship in related field

Position Information:

* The pay range for this position is $45-$60 hourly and auxiliary rate $35 hourly.

* This position is subject to a background check upon a conditional offer of employment and a reference check.
