Job Description:
The Textile/Surface Design department is recruiting a pool of applicants for possible adjunct teaching positions for courses in traditional painting, traditional media (painting) and CAD, and applied color theory.
Candidates bring practical experience in textile/surface design for fashion and/or home markets, coupled with expertise in both traditional and CAD techniques for original design development. They demonstrate strong abilities in layout and repeat creation and possess the capacity to research and analyze color and concept trends. Candidates must have a solid understanding of historical and current design and color trends, and be able to articulate industry-standard practices and language.
Beyond general skills, course specific skills include:
* Traditional drawing and hand painting skills using gouache, dyes, and watercolor.
* Expertise in using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator tools and processes specific to textile design (textile specific software experience a plus) for rotary and digital production.
* Experience in researching trends to develop cohesive print collections and articulate project proposals.
* Comprehensive knowledge of color theory and its practical application in color management.
This is a part-time, adjunct teaching position beginning in Spring 2026. Review of applications will commence immediately and continue until the position is filled. The department will keep this posting open to create a pool of candidates for potential future adjunct assignments. The department will contact applicants whose qualifications fit our programmatic needs.

Possible courses are TD 115 Introduction to Textile/Surface Design, TD 116 Color Principles and Practices, TD 141 Nature Studies, Td 155 Decorative Fabrics, TD 206 Advanced Home Textiles, TD 251 Techniques for Decorative Fabrics and Surfaces, TD 304 Textile Surface Design for Lifestyle Products, TD 413 CAD for Portfolio Presentation, TD 462 Portfolio Collection.
Adjunct instructors deliver relevant course material, assess student performance, provide guidance and assistance to students both in and out of the classroom, and submit grades on time. Course descriptions are available in the online catalog.
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
* Candidates must have a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.
* Minimum of six (6) years professional experience as a textile designer. Presentation of strong portfolio showcasing professional work done for the textile industry.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Master of Fine Arts or Master of Arts degree or equivalent.
* College level teaching experience is preferred.
* Experience as a Senior Designer preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
* Preference will be given to candidates with complementary skill sets.

Compensation
The UCE-FIT Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) governs the compensation, benefits, and conditions of employment.
$89.98 per hour based on minimum qualifications. The final rate, step and appointment rank are determined by a candidate's ability to demonstrate that they meet the respective school's additional criteria for hiring "above the first step," in accordance with the CBA Adjunct Salary Schedules (pp 88-89).
