FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The Religion Program at Hunter College of The City University of New York invites applications for a position at the rank of Lecturer or Doctoral Lecturer. This is a full-time appointment with a renewable contract and eligibility for a Certificate of Continuous Service.
We seek a dynamic and innovative Lecturer whose teaching experience, publication record, advising experience, and research interests explore theoretical, interdisciplinary, and pluralistic topics within religious studies. The successful candidate will contribute to the university's commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and critical inquiry in the humanities and social sciences.
We welcome candidates specializing in any area of academic Religious Studies, but areas of particular interest include:
* Hermeneutics, Philosophy of Religion, and/or Psychology of Religion
* African American religious traditions
* Hinduism and interconnections with Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Sikhism, and philosophy
* Other Non-Western religious traditions (e.g., Indigenous, African, Asian, Caribbean, or Latin American traditions)
* Comparative or thematic approaches to religion (with an emphasis on gender and sexuality, embodiment, dis/ability, race and ethnicity, interfaith relations, postsecular religion)
Responsibilities :
* Teach undergraduate courses in Religious Studies, including introductory courses (REL 110 and REL 111) and advanced courses in the candidate's area of specialization
* Advise and mentor students, including supervision of undergraduate Honors Tutorial projects
* Take over the responsibilities of Director on a rotating basis with other Full Time Teaching Faculty
* Engage in departmental, university, and professional service
* Work on interfaith dialogue alongside the student-run Religion Forum
* Contribute to interdisciplinary programs and initiatives within the university overall
Faculty duties include:

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in area(s) of expertise required for Lecturer (Master's degree strongly preferred).
Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent required for Doctoral Lecturer.
Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

Salary commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience within the range of title/s (Lect.: $70,571 -$89,236; & Doc. Lect.: $70,642-$89,933)
CUNY is in the process of implementing salary schedule increases. Once implemented, salaries of eligible employees will increase by 3.5% effective 9/1/26, in accordance with the terms of the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement.
