92NY is launching a new recorder program in partnership with NYC public schools and seeks an experienced Recorder Teaching Artist to lead in school and after school recorder residencies for students in grades 4–5. This position is currently assigned to a partner public school in Queens and Brooklyn.

  • Teach weekly recorder workshops in participating elementary school classrooms. Workshops typically last 45 minutes, the equivalent of one class period. Teaching Artists may lead two to five classes per visit.
  • Deliver an engaging recorder program aligned with a pre existing curriculum.
  • Conduct rehearsals and prepare students for culminating performances.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
  • Participate in required trainings, meetings, and professional development opportunities.
  • Communicate proactively and consistently with 92NY staff and classroom teachers to ensure smooth program delivery and address successes and challenges.
  • Arrive punctually and fully prepared for each school visit.
  • Document each class through photos and student testimonials in alignment with program guidelines.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Music Education required.
  • Experience teaching in New York City public schools.
  • Three to five years of experience teaching in school classroom settings, with experience working with grades 4–5 strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage large classroom groups with varied learning needs.
  • Commitment to inclusive, student centered instruction and positive classroom culture.
  • Strong classroom management, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Experience implementing culturally responsive and sustaining pedagogy.
  • Interest in working within a pre developed 16 session recorder curriculum.
  • Strong knowledge of recorder technique and pedagogy.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Passion for working with young students and supporting their musical development.
  • Pre existing fingerprint clearance through the NYC and New York State Departments of Education preferred.
  • Spanish proficiency a plus.
  • Experience working with multilingual learners and students with disabilities a plus.

Applicants must be available to work during regular school hours, approximately 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. ET, and to participate in required professional development and planning meetings. The residency period is anticipated to run from February 2026 through June 2026. Residency schedules and class loads are determined on a school by school basis.
