Position: Life Science Educator (Part-Time)
The American Museum of Natural History is one of the world's preeminent scientific and cultural institutions, and has as its mission to discover, interpret and disseminate information about human cultures, the natural world and the universe through a wide-ranging program of scientific research, education and exhibition.

The Education department's Youth Initiatives (YI) group is seeking a part-time Life Science Educator to teach out-of-school programs for 6th-12th grade students in the form of camps, institutes and after-school courses. Additionally, the Educator will revise and develop curricula for those programs as needed.

The YI group, a division of the Museum's Education division, is dedicated to STEM workforce development and science enrichment for youth ages 10 to 24. In YI, we aspire to be a hub and model for youth science learning and engagement that promotes full participation in science by all young people.

Candidates must be committed to working towards the Museum's mission and open to learning and implementing practices that elevate all learners. The Life Science Educator will also work with their colleagues to apply a life science lens to our other science courses (e.g. "Ocean Worlds": a middle school course that explores the dynamic process of Earth's oceans in the search for oceans across our solar system).

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

* Teach YI programs, including SRMP, Lang Science Scholars, Science Alliance, high school workshops and Children and Family Learning.

* Revise or design life science curricula as needed throughout the year for various program departments.

* Participate in professional learning, including class observation, educational professional development (including special exhibits), DEI sessions and co-teaching with more senior educators.

* Maintain scheduling flexibility. Depending on the season and course, teaching schedules may include after-school hours (until 7 PM), Saturdays, and full-day programs during school holidays.

The expected salary for the Life Science Educator is $38.54/hour. This position is overtime-eligible.

Pay will be determined based on several factors. The hiring range for the position at commencement is based on the type of work and the scope of responsibilities. The salary and placement offered is based on a number of individualized factors, including, but not limited to, skills, knowledge, training, education, credentials, areas of specialization and depth and scope of experience.
