Spanish Teacher

The Modern Language Department at Collegiate School seeks a dedicated, dynamic, and experienced Spanish Teacher to serve primarily in the Middle School, with flexibility to teach in the Upper School as needed. Successful candidates will possess high proficiency across all modalities of the language, speaking, listening, reading and writing and will engage curious and active students through imaginative and versatile pedagogy.

The ideal candidate brings a genuine passion for working with Middle School students and experience designing engaging language curricula. Proficiency in French language instruction is a plus. Additionally, the Spanish Teacher must demonstrate a strong commitment to building and sustaining a diverse, just, inclusive and equitable academic environment.

General Summary

Under the general supervision of the Middle School Head and Upper School Head, the Spanish Teacher is responsible for the instructional program, general operations, and management of assigned classes within the Modern Language Department. This position builds upon the academic foundations established at earlier grade levels, particularly those developed through the School's FLES program in Spanish in the Lower School. The Spanish Teacher develops dynamic and creative lesson plans, advises students, creates independent learning exercises and materials, contributes to curriculum development and addresses both individual student needs and whole-group dynamics.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Teach classes as assigned, providing effective and professional classroom instruction, assessment, and management.
• Design and implement curriculum consistent with the mission, values and academic standards established by the School.
• Ensure classroom instruction, lessons, and materials foster diversity, inclusion and belonging.
• Assess students dynamically to evaluate their abilities, strengths and areas for growth.
• Grade assignments and examinations to build students' confidence, independence, and accountability.
• Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development and enhancement of instructional practices and strategies.
• Establish effective communication and relationships with students and parents.
• Exhibit a growth mindset and pursue ongoing professional development.
• Support School policies, protocols, and expectations.
• Maintain professional, collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, and community partners.
• Support the work of the Head of School and senior leadership.
• Participate in required non-classroom activities including conferences, meetings, field trips, and special events.
• Provide effective supervision of students inside and outside the classroom.
• Complete required reports and responsibilities in a timely and professional manner.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in teaching or a related field required.
• Master's degree or higher preferred.
• Minimum of two years of teaching experience required.

Special Requirements

• Successful completion of all required background checks.
• Native fluency in Spanish required.
• Proficiency in French language instruction is a plus.
