Position OverviewWe are is seeking dedicated and certified Special Education Teachers to support early childhood and school-based programs throughout New York. This role is ideal for educators passionate about working with children with special needs in structured and supportive learning environments.
Minimum Requirements· New York State Certification in Special Education
· New York State Certification in Early Childhood Education or N-6 (for Day Care and UPK Teachers)
· Meet all additional New York State certification requirements
· Must be fingerprinted, or willing to be fingerprinted, by the Board of Education and Department of Investigation
· Must be registered on the TEACH website
· Certified completion of Domestic Violence and Child Abuse courses
· Pre-employment Physical Exam (within one year), including documentation of: PPD, MMR, TDAP, Varicella
Position SummaryUnder general direction, the Special Education Teacher is responsible for conducting educational classes for preschool and school-age students within Special Education, Early Intervention, Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK), or Day Care programs. The Teacher serves as the team leader and provides supervision to Teacher Assistants while ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and program standards.
Key Responsibilities· Plan and conduct classroom activities adapted to student needs
· Develop, implement, and evaluate IFSP / IEP goals and objectives
· Participate in student evaluations, intake processes, and annual reviews
· Prepare and adapt lesson plans, materials, and classroom environments
· Maintain accurate attendance, progress records, and required reports
· Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and parents / guardians
· Supervise, support, and evaluate Teacher Assistants
· Participate in student transitions and related program activities
· Ensure student dignity, privacy, and confidentiality at all times
· Assist with student mobility, positioning, feeding, and toileting as needed
· Attend staff meetings, parent meetings, and management sessions
· Participate in curriculum development and in-service training
· Provide supervision and training to student teachers when assigned
· Remain current with developments in special education practices
